Beauchamps' Corporate M&A team was delighted to advise Waterford’s Ormonde Organics, a leading Irish biogas and biomethane producer, on its sale to Spanish firm Heygaz Biomethane.
Ormonde operates two anaerobic digestion plants at Portlaw, County Waterford and Youghal, County Cork, with a total production capacity of 60 GWh annually. Full planning permission has been secured for a third facility, which is expected to become operational at the end of 2025. The Ormonde Organics management team will remain at the helm.
Ireland has a first-class opportunity to develop a scaled biomethane industry as a result of its abundant, sustainable agricultural feedstocks. This potential aligns with the Government of Ireland’s recent commitment to increase biomethane production from 75 GWh to 6 TWh by 2030.
Beauchamps has acted for Ormonde since it was set up and advised Ormonde in the negotiation of Ireland's first biomethane transmission connection agreement with Gas Networks Ireland. Biomethane is a key enabler to decarbonise Ireland's gas network, as well as hard to abate sectors such as HGV transport.
The Beauchamps Corporate M&A team was led by Shaun O'Shea and was supported by John White, Damian Maloney, Ainsley Heffernan, Stuart Conaty, John Gaffney, Maitiú Ó Dónaill, Orla Donohoe and Rachel Leavy.
